Lotusland Botanical Garden Tour

Total Tour Time: approximately 4 hours

The garden at Lotusland is home to more than 3,000 plants from all over the world representing the horticultural passion of one extraordinary woman, the great Madame Ganna Walska. Married six times and having studied both vocal music and spiritual teachings in search of creative fulfillment and personal enlightenment, she dedicated more than forty years to amassing unique collections and commissioning innovative garden designs. Residing in both Paris and New York before calling Central California her home in 1941, she purchased the 37-acre Cuesta Linda estate and changed the name to Lotusland in honor of the sacred Indian lotus growing in one of the ponds on the property. She then began what would a gradual transformation from well-known socialite to garden designer.

Most of her energy and resources were poured into creating a botanical garden of rare plants using her natural artistic talents to create a fantasy world of exquisite beauty.

The tour, a series of gardens with subtropical and tropical plants from around the world, draws the visitor from surprise to surprise on the two-hour docent-guided walking tour.  The tour includes both horticultural and historical information as well as a stop at the Lotusland Garden Shop.

From there, we will travel to Santa Barbara’s pristine waterfront and enjoy a delicious lunch at the FisHouse which offers some of the central coast’s finest fresh seafood.
