Gateway Arch and Riverboat Cruise NDO

Gateway Arch and Riverboat Cruise NDO

Are you enamored with history and amazing views?  Look no further; this NDO is calling your name!

St. Louis, founded in 1764, is home to the mesmerizing Gateway Arch.  A National Historic Landmark - Gateway Arch was designed by the Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen in 1947. Construction began on February 12, 1963, and was completed on October 28, 1965.  Gateway Arch is 630-foot-tall, clad in stainless steel, and built as a weighted catenary arch.  It is the world's tallest arch, built as a monument to the United States' westward expansion. The Arch is commonly referred to as "The Gateway to the West,"

We will begin our adventure with a Tram Ride to the Top of the Arch*.    From the Observation Deck, we will enjoy breathtaking views, which span more than 30 miles in either direction, looking over the Mississippi River and Illinois to the East and across St. Louis City and County to the West.

Following our Tram Ride, a National Park Ranger will meet us for a specially curated museum tour.

At 1:15 pm, we will begin boarding a replica 19th-century paddle-wheel riverboat for a cruise through time on the Mighty Mississippi.  Brought to the St. Louis riverfront in 1964, the Becky Thatcher and the Tom Sawyer Riverboats were originally used to take curious sightseers out on the river to view the construction of the Gateway Arch. We will be served a box lunch and have an expert-narrated history tour of the Mississippi River and St. Louis.

We will return to the hotel by 3:30 pm – 4:00 pm.

*Please Note: The Tram Ride to the Top of the Gateway Arch is not fully accessible for guests with mobility impairments, as no wheelchairs, scooters, or strollers are permitted on the Observation Deck. No seating or restrooms are located at the top of the Arch.
