HERMANN TOUR

Tour Duration: 5.5-6 hours
This tour will head west into St. Charles Country and then onto State Highway 94, which is part of the original Missouri state highway system and largely parallels the Missouri river. The route winds its way past the small river basin town of Defiance, and through the quant wine producing German village of Augusta, home of the first AVA (American Viticultural Area) in the country and location of the Mt. Pleasant, Augusta and Montelle Wineries.
The tour continues through many miles of sweeping tree lined and elevated driving roads, with the Missouri River valley basin on one side and rural farm lined foothills on the other. We will take a break at the famous Thierbach Orchards and Berry Farm in Marthasville, where participants can stretch their legs, grab some homemade apple cider and some tasty fall inspired baked goods.
The tour continues and winds its way westward on Highway 94 all the way to Hermann, via the Bond bridge, spanning the Missouri River which divides Gasconade and Montgomery Counties.
Hermann Missouri was originally founded by German settlers in 1837 and many say the area closely resembles the Rhine Valley, and the evidence of the area’s German roots are still widely seen, including the local wineries which have been a foundation of the community since the turn of the century. Much of the downtown remains a historic district, and after lunch Treffen guests are free to roam and tour the many shops, galleries, museums and participate in other local river front activities.
