LOUIS & CLARK TRAIL TOUR

This scenic tour will head west from Clayton into St. Charles County, incorporating some of the old iconic Route 66 through Ellisville and Wildwood Missouri. We continue through some windy and hilly segments of the Louis & Clark Trail through the tree lined historic river bluff community of St. Albans, home of Head’s Store which is on the National Register of Historic Places. We continue through historic Labadie, a once frequent stop used by the Missouri Pacific Railroad.

 

The route then circumvents historic Washington, MO and heads south through the scenic upper river valley and tree lined Highway 185 to sleepy Beaufort, MO for where we head west on Highway 50 to Gerald, MO and turn north back on scenic Highway Y; one of the best driving routes in the area, winding its way through the hilly valley vistas of the lower Missouri river valley shelf. We then turn west onto the Missouri River wine trail highway, past New Haven and finishing in the German influenced historic town of Washington, whose German sister city is Marbach am Neckar, Baden, Germany.

 

The tour concludes with a private gourmet lunch at the popular Front & Oak Wine Bar & Tasting room, overlooking the majestic Missouri River. After lunch, participants can walk through historic downtown Washington, and enjoy the many shops, gallery’s and even take a tour of the National Corn Cob Pipe Museum.
